Good Sheet is a cash flow management application we collaborated on with our long-term partner Holy Studio, led by Gabriela Kanik and Piotr Synowiec, the creator and initiator of the project. The goal was to create an intuitive Single Page Application (SPA) that would serve as a superior alternative to Excel for managing finances, targeting beginner entrepreneurs.
Project Context
The collaboration between Codee and the branding studio Holy Studio has lasted over a decade. During this time, we implemented dozens of websites of various sizes for Holy Studio, ranging from portfolio sites to portals inspired by giants like Airbnb.
After years of managing a branding studio, Piotr wanted to create an app to support budget management for beginner entrepreneurs. Holy Studio was responsible for all creative and backend work, while our software house was fully in charge of the front-end application.
Collaboration with Krzysztof was crucial to the project's success. His ability to quickly grasp requirements, attention to detail, and experience in optimizing processes significantly contributed to the project's efficient execution.
Project Goals
Our main goals were:
- Utilizing Vue.js and Nuxt.js to build the app.
- Expanding our team's skills by working with a framework we hadn't used before (Django + Django Rest Framework).
- Improving user experience in budget management.
Challenges
The main challenges included:
- Creating a simple, intuitive app that required precise planning.
- Limited time resources, as the project was carried out after hours.
- Quickly responding to user feedback, requiring process optimization.
Krzysztof quickly understood our documentation and ensured the project was implemented meticulously. His commitment and open, transparent communication reduced the app development time significantly. Thanks to his experience, we could test solutions that accelerated development without compromising code quality.
Implementation Process
Planning and Research
Piotr started the project in 2021 with discussions with potential users (developers, freelancers, lawyers) about their experiences with cash flow management. Many avoided Excel due to its complexity and stress-inducing nature. Piotr observed that beginner entrepreneurs who don't regularly manage their cash flow risk business failure and financial issues due to poor budget control. Solving this problem became the foundation for creating the Good Sheet app.
Design and Consultations
Holy Studio prepared initial app designs, which were then consulted with potential users. After gathering feedback and making necessary adjustments, our software house began implementing the front-end layer of the app. We delivered a user-friendly admin panel featuring original typography and pastel colors to improve financial information readability and give users a sense of control over their finances.
